Parklife - A life unlike no other

We've just finished the first leg of the tour for Parklife 09, and boy, has it been an experience!!! First stop was Brisbane (otherwise known as Brisvegas to those in the know) where were were put up in the Stamford Plaza, a VERY swanky hotel. It was a long flight from our home base of Perth to get there, but we were greeted with warm weather (something we have been missing)and a seriously comfortable bed! The first of the Parklife events was a meet and greet gathering by the pool, where we got a chance to meet some of the guys from Aeroplane, and some from a Canadian band (whose name just escapes me at present, forgive me). Free champers and canapes helped ease us into the party spirit, and get amongst the atmosphere (although we were feeling a little bit like the black sheep, surrounded by the mostly male musos). We could get used to this rock star lifestyle!

Sound check on the stage was an interesting one - we are quickly learning that the stage specs can change innumerably, and thats just something we'll have to deal with! But we got a chance to walk through some things which was reassuring. Brisvegas was hot. And unfortunately the lunatics were out in force, all bound for the festival - the streets were packed with people who had obviously been drinking since the wee hours of the morning. But as the afternoon rolled on, and we headed down to the venue to prepare, the dust storms rolled in. If you've never performed in a dust storm, here's a tip - USE YOUR VENTOLIN!

But what a rush, the crowds were up around the 10 000 mark for the Empire set, and (just between you and me) I think we stole the show. I have never seen such stunned faces in a crowd before. Not that we could make out much past the front row, but that row sure was in awe.

So we're making the claim here, and feel free to dispute, that this is the world's first live performance with improvising backup dancers. Go us!

One stop down, four to go...
