Wind and Rain Go Away

Hi Folks,

So AIVDT are now resting, and trying to recover from the elements. The residency was fun, and an interesting experiment (and particularly testing of our resolve to dance in the elements). We braved the wind and rain to a certain extent at Hillarys Boat Harbour during the two weeks of the most extreme weather (which left me with bronchial Asthma... ahhh we suffer for our art, don't we?) This residency was a good chance for us to catch up with each other after doing seperate projects for the last few months. Hillarys is such an unusual space, a real interface between the natural and man-made environment. We were a little limited by being restricted to staying on he main stage area (We are very resistant to such a presentational style of public art) but we managed to make it work.

Things we've learned

* We only like the outdoors in spring/summer/autumn
* The public are very resistant to staying at watching unless you make them watch
* Music is a wonderful way of advertising that you are performing
* Audiences like us acting as directors during the performance. It gives them a chance to understand what's goin on
* Get signage that is resistant to the weather. Thank you Janifer's Florist for out new spiffy A-frame
* Site specific work is fun
* Hillarys Centre management don't particularly want to help advertise projects in their own space. Note: please don't rip down posters that you agreed to put up
* Once you have the audience ooked, they can watch for ages. Quote "She's just like rubber, I could watch her all day"
* If you are competing for attention with a giant inflatable jousting arena, you had better be funny.
* We would have loved to be able to work in the boardwalk area.
* What we are doing is a valuable asset to the arts scene in Perth.
* Public transport is evil!
