The weekend that was...

Greetings AIVDT fans,

The gals are still recovering from what was certainly a wild weekend. On Friday night, the gang performed as pre-show entertainment in the foyer of the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre for the Australian Youth Dance Festival. In the throngs of theatre-goers, the magic of AIVDT unfolded, weaving in and out of the crowds. One poor woman said to her friend "I didn't think the performers were allowed front of house in their costumes..." Ahhh well, we aim to surprise!

From there it was on to Fairbridge (at a rather late hour on Friday night). Mmmmmmm, fun in the sun. And dust. The dancers brought back the umbrellas (as it looked like rain on Saturday morning). But fortunately we warded off the weather, and performed to the most fantastically receptive crowd we have ever had! The dancers signed their first autographs for fans (or fan....) and were stopped by about 20 people who told them how much they enjoyed the performances. One gentleman from the Flying Carpanthians said that he was 'transported', and that the performances made him 'forget about the world for a moment' (note: this quote may be paraphrased slightly, but you get the idea). I mean, what else can you ask for?

Apart from the multitude of performances the dancers did, roving around the grounds (Yes Jo, we have mastered the art of convene and disperse!) we got to check out some absolutely fantastic music. Highlights include the Wise Family Band (in all its various incarnations. I personally purchased the "Wise Girls" CD. Absolutely fantastic. I'm a convert), Pierre Bensusan (who apparently gets a fan on stage for his performances! Playing guitar is sweaty work aparently), The Winter Smiths, several fantastic African bands, and PETER COMBE! The last being, obviously the highlight. There was a makeshift mosh pit at his 'Nostalgia show' for all those who grew up with his music. Although the people dancing weren't actually alive when he was at the height of fame...

And now we're back again. Washing the dust out of every pore and article of clothing...Ready for the Camp Quality Disco. And our other secret project. Which is really the worst kept secret in the history of secrets. Not in the loop yet? I will announce it in approximately a week. And you will be shocked. And amazed.

Keep Dancing...
